RUMBLE AT THE RINK II POISED FOR EXPLOSIVES

RATR1 ended in a knockout victory.

Expect more fireworks on May 13th in Nanaimo.

Gloved Up Promotions – comprised of Qualicum Beach and Parksville promoters Andrew Wilde and Terry Strawson – are putting the finishing touches on their third professional boxing event in as many years, the second in their ‘Rumble at the Rink’ series to be hosted at Frank Crane Arena in Nanaimo, BC. The night of world class professional boxing will take place on Friday the 13th of May. We hope you’re not easily scared!

Returning to Nanaimo once more is current WBA NABA US super middleweight champion Dashon ‘FlyBoy’ Johnson fresh off his fight of the year candidate against world ranked contender Jesse Hart in Philadelphia. In a spirited, yet losing effort, Johnson scored two knockdowns – one of which occurred dramatically in the dying seconds of the fight – in a bout, shrouded in controversy, that has everybody in the hometown of Rocky Balboa comparing Johnson to the fictional hall of famer.

In the main event of the evening Johnson will square off against rough and ready Mexican Victor Manuel Palacios looking to make a statement. “It’s time to get back on track,” said Johnson “I felt like something was taken from me in my last fight and it is time to put things right. No more leaving things to the referees and judges.”

It sounds like somebody is gunning for the knockout victory at ‘Rumble at the Rink II’

In the co-feature, undefeated prospect Lukasz Wierzbicki will be looking to make it ten victories out of ten fights in what promises to be a fantastic, action-packed bout with Mexico’s Felipe De La Paz Teniente. Wierzbicki – from Poland now fighting ourt of Canada – is a southpaw with fast hands and feet and his opponent, as are most Mexicans, is known for his hunger and determination. I would not miss this one.

Six foot seven Marquice Weston Рalso undefeated with a record of 6-0 Рis slated for action in the harbour city. Weston, a former Olympic alternate and amateur standout for the US, will look to use his near seven foot frame to good use against whoever he fights. A boxer-puncher who once fought through a broken jaw en route to a victory. Talk about heart.

In what could prove to be ‘Fight of the Night’ in an all BC showdown, ‘Dyna’ Mike Dowsett and Ken ‘Heavy Hands’ Huber will go head to head at the cruiserweight limit (200 pounds). These two like to fight. Both men are looking to make a statement and are desperate to record the win at “Rumble at the Rink II”.

Also, six foot five, 250 pound BC Heavyweight Adam Querido of Vancouver will look to improve on his winning professional debut by making it two for two against the wily and craft veteran Sandy Pembroke of Kelowna, BC now fighting out of Washington, DC. “Whenever you have close to 500 pound worth of heavyweights in the ring,” said promoter Terry Strawson “You can almost bet your grandma on excitement. Adam is a real physical specimen and Sandy has been around the block, it is a real crossroads fight. Youth against experience. I’m excited for it”

Rounding out the action is professional debut Winston ‘The Punisher’ Matthews. Following a short, but impressive, stint in the amateur ranks Matthews is hoping to carry his 10-1 form in to the professional scene. He will trade leather with Dia Grant of Vancouver in a scheduled four round bout.
