Dashon Johnson returns to Canada

Highly regarded and well respected boxing journeyman Dashon Johnson will be heading back to Canada to compete at Gloved Up Promotions’ “Rumble at the Rink” on May 2. He will be making his first appearance in Canada since he demolished two-time Olympian Adam Trupish,

Dashon Johnson - now fighting in Nanaimo May 2 - stands over former world champion Sergio Mora.

who was  ranked #11 by the WBA back in 2013. On a card that was promoted by another Olympian, Manny Sobral, Johnson crushed Trupish with an over-hand right that sent the Canadian crumbling to the canvas.

“I took that fight on a couple days notice  against a world-ranked two-time Olympian because I love Canada,” laughed Johnson “It’s my second home and I have many friends there. I’m so excited to be coming back and I’m hoping I can end it with a knockout again. The fans in Vancouver really embraced me after the Trupish fight and I have lots of friends in Nanaimo so I’m hoping it will be even better.”

Johnson, once a highly touted welterweight, has fought a who’s-who of contenders and former champions. He has shared the ring with Glen Tapia, Jermell Charlo and Yudel Jhonson. He is the only fighter to put Sergio Mora on his backside, he flattened prospect Dominic Wade with the first punch of their fight and he gave Mayweather Promotions’ Luis Arias hell in a controversial fight last year. Not to mention his victories over Adam Trupish and Craig Mcewan.

He once fought former world champion Joshua Clottey (yes, the one who fought Pacquiao) on a Friday night in New York. The next day he was scheduled for an MMA fight in San Diego. He, amazingly, fulfilled his commitment. Oh, did I mention he was in the UFC too?

“We’re excited to have him here. He’s a fantastic boxer who has competed on the biggest stages,” said promoter Terry Strawson “His resume speaks for itself really, he’s been around the block a few times. He’s always in fantastic shape and I’m expecting some fireworks from him. It’s a second chance.”
